About
Although I’ve seen or heard every Doctor Who story at some point, I’ve never done the start-to-finish, episode by episode “pilgrimage” that’s the hallmark of a true fan. So, in the 2016 hiatus year I thought I’d take the opportunity to go back, back to the beginning, and review each episode, one by one.
Rather than watching whole stories (and losing interest by episode 3, which is what normally happens), I’ve limited myself to one episode at a time. It’s giving me a new perspective on stories I thought I knew, meaning I notice things I’ve overlooked in the past. After each episode, I write a short review, and post it on the blog.

Hey Matt, every so often I check in here to see if you’ve written anything new since your “Underworld” review. If you’re doing requests, I’ve always wondered what you made of the BBC Books Eighth Doctor novels that came out after your comprehensive survey of the series in the 2003 DWM Special on McGann. Take it easy! I miss your work … and I’m sure I’m not alone!
Thank you for the kind feedback. The Invasion of Time has been looking at me accusingly for months.
I’ve podcast with Kenny Smith on many of the 8th Doctor Adventures (though not the post-2003 ones yet) on the Pieces of Eighth podcast. The time it takes to read a 250 page tightly typeset novel vs 110 brisk pages of Terrance Dicks is daunting, so if I did it’d likely only be the ones I remembered being particularly worthwhile.
I’m also probably going to tackle the Disney series ahead of this year’s Christmas special – for the TV episodes the point of the blog was to look at them with some benefit of distance so I haven’t wanted to revisit until at least a year or so has passed.
Thanks again and happy new year.
